About IBCS

Building Competence. Protecting Lives. Strengthening Construction.

Our Background

The Institute for Building & Construction Safety (IBCS) is a registered educational institution (with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Nigeria) established for the provision of education, training, examination, competency assessment, and certification in occupational health and safety, construction safety, and related disciplines.

The Institute delivers competency-based education through online, blended, and workplace learning, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and field expertise. IBCS conducts rigorous examinations and awards professional certifications, including the Foundation Certificate in OHS, National Health & Safety Administrator (NHSA), and National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO).

The curriculum is prepared for and aligned with the requirements of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Federal Republic of Nigeria. Programme delivery follows an Open, Distance and Blended Learning (ODBL) model — theoretical instruction is delivered 100% online through the Institute's Learning Management System, while practical training, laboratory exercises, simulations, fieldwork, competency assessments, and supervised industrial attachment are conducted in person at approved training centres and industrial workplaces.

Institutional Philosophy

The Institute is founded on the principle that effective Occupational Health and Construction Safety professionals are developed through Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), which integrates academic learning with practical skills and workplace experience. Graduates demonstrate occupational competence through successful completion of prescribed academic studies, practical assessments, and supervised industrial attachment before the award of any qualification.

Our Vision

To be a leading competency-based institution for Occupational Health and Construction Safety education, producing highly competent professionals through quality technical education, innovation, and industry collaboration.

Our Mission

To educate, train, assess, and certify competent Occupational Health and Construction Safety professionals through competency-based education, practical skills development, industry engagement, and lifelong learning that promote safer workplaces and sustainable national development.
